ABOUT TRIPURA

Tiny Tripura, almost surrounded by Bangladesh, is the second smallest state in India. This panoramic state is inhabited largely by 19 Tribes, Bengali and Manipuri etc. Heavily forested; it's renowned for its vast array of bamboo products. Handloom weaving is also a significant industry there. The mixed European-Mughal style Ujjayanta Palace provides interest at Tripura's capital, Agartala. However, as it's occupied by the State Legislative Assembly, only the grounds can be explored. Tripura's star attraction, however, is the lake place of Neermahal. It was constructed as a summer resort in 1930 by late Maharaja Birbikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. There's a boating facility on the lake. Tripura also has a number of Buddhist temples, giving it appeal as a Buddhist pilgrimage place. Unakoti, a Shiva pilgrimage site, has the largest rock-cut images and stone idols of Lord Shiva in India. Archaeological Tourism includes places like Unakoti, Pilak, Debtamura, Boxnagar, etc. Places of religious tourism includes Tripura Sundari Temple, Kashaba Kali Temple, Laxmi Narayan Mandir, Mahamuni Pagoda, etc. Water based tourism includes Neermahal, Dumboor Lake, Kamalasagar, etc. Wildlife includes Sepahijala Sanctuary, Trishna Sanctuary, Gomati Sanctuary, Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary, Jampui Hills, Tepania Eco Park, Baramura Eco Park, etc. The most famous hill ranges, located in the east are the Jampoi, Sakham Tlang, Langtarai, Athara Mura and Bara Mura. Be-talang-Shiv at 3200 feet in the Jampoi hill range is the highest peak of the state.The best time to visit Tripura is in the month of September and October as at this time, the climate is very pleasant.Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, Gondacherra Wild Life Sanctuary and The Trishna Wildlife are few of the attractive wildlife sanctuary. Some of the places in Tripura are Ujjayanta Palace, Kunjaban Palace, Neermahal Lake Palace, Tribal Museum, Sukanta Academy, Laxminarayan Temple, Uma Maheswar Temple, Jagannath Temple, Fourteen Goddess Temple, Portuguese Church, Gedu Mian Mosque, Unakoti, Pilak, Tripureswari temple, Dumboor lake, Rudrasagar, Amarsagar, etc.

Tripura as a state resembles a tiny dot on the Indian peninsula situated between Northeast India and Bangladesh. It is home to nineteen indigenous tribes and their rich diverse cultures along with a non-tribal Bengali speaking population with its rich cultural heritage. Tripura offers a peaceful and irresistible charm as a tourist destination. It is rich in history, archaeology, diversity of cultural streams, faiths, handicrafts, traditional art, music, etc. The flora and fauna along with its biodiversity always cast a magnetic spell on tourists.

Airways - Agartala, the state capital has the main airport and is connected by air with Kolkata, Guwahati, Delhi and Chennai. The airport is 12 kilometers away from the city. A flight from Guwahati or Kolkata takes about 50 minutes to reach Agartala. The state has three more small airports at Khowai, Kamalpur and Kailashahar with helicopter service.

Railways - The nearest railway station is Kumarghat at a distance of 140 kilometers from Agartala. This railway station is connected to Guwahati which is well connected by other cities. The total length of Rail line within the state is 158 kilometers. Passenger Reservation System is available at Agartala, Udaipur and Dharmanagar. Unreserved Ticketing System is functional in all stations. Few of the trains are Agartala - Lumding Express, Agartala - Silchar Passenger, Agartala - Dharmanagar Local, etc.

Roadways – Tripura is also connected by road with Guwahati via Shillong by national highway number 44. It takes about 24 hours by road from Guwahati to reach Agartala. Good luxury coaches, tourist cabs, jeeps, and small segment cars ply on this road. Agartala is 587 kilometers from Guwahati, 487 kilometers from Shillong and 250 kilometers from Silchar while the distance between Agartala and Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) is just 150 kilometers. But because of location reaching Tripura India is easier from Bangladesh by road.
